SUSTAINABILITY

Supporting the Healthy Beauty of People around the World by Utilizing Local Resources in Kyoto

MwU will continue to contribute towards the realization of a sustainable society through its business.

Because we have been sharing the power of matcha, beloved in Japan since ancient times, and the culture of Kyoto with the world, we will continue to work hand in hand with the local community to support the society and lifestyles of the future.

01.

Environmentally Friendly Organic Uji Green Tea is a Key Ingredient

MwU’s key ingredient is organic Uji green tea produced in Kyoto. Organic farming, which does not rely on chemical fertilizers or pesticides, is an environmentally friendly cultivation method that protects life in the natural world, including any microorganisms living in the soil.
MwU selects only organic Uji matcha green tea grown with special care from the very beginning at soil preparation, and manufactures products using high quality match suitable for use in tea ceremonies. MwU is committed to ethical manufacturing that reduces environmental impact and is friendly to humanity.

02.

Using Famous Spring Water from Fushimi, Kyoto, Making the Most of Local Resources

Equally as important as the organic Uji matcha green tea, is the water used in our beauty serum. The water used in the serum is typical purified water, but with the cooperation of sake brewery Kinshi Masamune, we use Tokiwa-isui, a famous spring water used in making Japanese sake.
By working hand in hand with local companies and using spring water from Fushimi, which has long been known as some of the best water by sake breweries in Japan, we have created a special beauty serum that delivers natural minerals directly to the skin.

03.

Transforming Waste Wood into Natural Essential Oils that Heal the Heart

There is a faint, calming fragrance as you apply the serum to your skin. Its source is the natural essential oils from Kitayama cedar produced in Keihoku-cho, Kyoto. Kitayama cedar is a traditional Kyoto staple that has supported the development of tea ceremony culture since the Muromachi period ( 1336-1573), and MwU’s products contain essential oils derived from their branches, leaves, and timber produced through cutting back forests.
We hope you will enjoy its aroma as though taking a deep breath in the forest, and feel the sustainable Kyoto-style “shimatsu spirit” of recycling precious resources without waste.

04.

Protecting the Environment with You through Container Selection

Today, the focus of our attention is on the elimination of plastics due to their impact on climate change and ocean pollution. As a measure to address environmental issues, we have adopted a glass bottle for our serums which, when handled properly, can be 100% recycled. After use, glass products are broken into small pieces, melted, and reborn as new glass products.

Empty containers are recycled. With this simple action, we hope that everyone will participate in environmental conservation and work together to create a sustainable society. We deliver such wishes along with our products.
